Welcome to Toronto Academy of EMC

Teach for love. Learn for life.

Full-Year Programs

We offer two different full-time program packages for high school students. These program packages are catered to high-achieving, ambitious students who wish to take up post-secondary education at most of the major universities in Canada/US.

Scholarships

One important feature of our school is the number of scholarships we give out to both our new and returning students. In any given year, we will be awarding 3 full-tuition scholarships. In addition, there are numerous scholarships ranging in values from 2000 up to 50 percent of tuition.

Who We Are

Toronto Academy of English, Mathematics and Coding, or simply EMC, is a newly established private school providing relevant, high-quality education for students from grades 9 – 12 based on the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum.

Our school is founded and run by a University professor and three Ph. D students. We are a group of educators who are very passionate about helping students to achieve their academic objectives and career goals.

Our program of studies in the areas of our name will be of the highest caliber. Especially, in the subject areas of Mathematics and Coding, we have an impressive group of teachers and program advisers who possess an in-depth and thorough knowledge of the curriculum topics being presented.

We also offer many other credits courses that are required for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. It is our conviction that teachers who are passionate about their teaching can then instill in their students the necessary motivations and desire for lifelong learning. Our school’s motto “Teach for love. Learn for life” is a reflection of this conviction of ours.

Our Teaching Philosophy

Teaching is not simply a process by which information is imparted from the teacher to the students. While giving students some of the fundamentals in the subject is commendable, its importance is minor relative to the overall objective of teaching. To us, the most valuable aspect that students come away with from a genuine education is the ability and habit to think critically.

Thinking critically includes questioning all assumptions and evidence for consistency, reducing complex situations to simpler ones, drawing analogies between seemingly different problems, differentiating between essential and non-essential “data”, recognizing common methods that can be applied beyond a particular context, making inferences from concrete situations to more general ones.

In the age of Google and Facebook, from Apple Siri to Amazon Alexa, the enormously expanding amount of raw data that exists makes it all the more necessary to develop a habit and the skill for critical thinking. The student who has learnt to think critically would have acquired the essential life-long learning skills which are far more meaningful than any known facts, formulas or theorems.

Providing an environment where critical thinking skills and habits are constantly practiced and encouraged is one of our primary endeavours.

Enrichment Summer Camp

Our Enrichment Summer Camp consists of weekly study sessions in mathematics, physics and English for 6 weeks during the summer. These sessions are meant to both reinforce the students’ understanding of the topics that they had studied previously or to introduce them to new topics that they will be studying in the coming semester. More specifically,

  • Grade 9 students will continue with the grade 10 syllabi for Mathematics, English, Physics (or Chemistry).
  • Grade 10 students will continue with the grade 11 syllabi for Mathematics, English, Physics (or Chemistry).
  • Grade 11 students will continue with the grade 12 syllabi for Mathematics, English, Physics (or Chemistry).
  • Grade 12 students will continue with the first- year university syllabi for Mathematics, Physics (or Chemistry) at the university level if the student has been officially admitted into the university.

The Enrichment Summer Camp is completely optional. However, we strongly encourage all of our students to make maximum use of it to attain the best possible results in their academic endeavour.

By including both the Tutoring Support and the Enrichment Summer Camp in our full-time programs, we ensure that our students will be provided with the opportunity to achieve the best academic performances possible, not only during a current semester, but also to maintain/improve on their academic standings as they continue on to their next academic year.

Student Services

Our philosophy of education is that all students are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is our desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential.

No matter which Program Package a student enrolls in, we strongly believe that it is important to give all our students a balanced educational experience well beyond the classroom. As such, we have decided to include the following additional services as part of our full-year programs at EMC.

Early Intervention

Our staff will closely monitor the progress of each student so that all academically-at-risk students will be identified early on in the semester. A brief report will be sent by email to the parents/guardians of the student on a monthly basis to update them on the academic progress and well being of the student.

Parents/guardians can also choose to hold monthly phone meetings with our staff to discuss any issues or concerns that they might have.

Career Days

In order to help our students make informed choices about their educational track and future career paths, we will have a career day once each semester.

During a career day, invited guest speakers who are currently working in various industries will share with our students different aspects of their job. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and get up-to-date responses and practical advice directly from these working professionals.

Meet and Greet

We will host a “Meet and Greet” session once each semester for our students who are in grades 11-12. During a Meet and Greet session, the students will get the opportunity to interact with some of the current college/university students to find out about the various aspects of the university/college life. Our students will get useful advice and tips on how to succeed in colleges and universities.

Social Outings

At EMC, we strongly believe in the value of providing students with an enriched educational journey. We will be organizing school trips to various parts of the city so our students will have more opportunities to experience the diversity of the Canadian culture. These social outings will broaden the students’ outlook and understanding about themselves and others, and provide them with the the chance to discover and make new lasting friendships.
